Buck Saw, Sweep Saw, Turning Saw, or Frame Saw 

A single person saw used for crosscutting wood poles and logs up to 12 inches in diameter.  At one time or another most farmers would be seen cutting firewood using such a saw.  Saws similar to this one date back to the 13^th Century.  The Russian Czar, Peter the Great, imposed a law requiring the use of the saw as a way to eliminate wasting timber.
