Mortise GaugeThis tool was used to mark two parallel sides of a mortise and tenon. The distance between the two pins is adjustable to a desired width. Marks would be made into a beam so that a groove could be cut into the beam at that desired width. On a second or the mating beam, the tool is used to mark off the thickness of the end of the beam so that it will exactly fit into the groove. |
