SpokeshaveUnlike its predecessor, the drawknife or smoothing plane, the spokeshave has a regulated depth of cut. The two thumbscrews set a blade to the desired thickness of material to be removed. It is pulled toward you from the position shown. It is used to finish narrow pieces of wood. This tool probably predates the civil war and is one of the rarer tools in this photographic collection. |
